Christina Bilan is a Dallas-based jewelry designer, entrepreneur, and world traveler. She describes her pieces as “jewelry for the soul,” because she tends to gravitate towards charms and pendants that bring good luck, happiness, intelligence, and the like.
She finds her inspiration from her travels. Her feet have been all over the world, from Argentina, Thailand, India, Germany, Austria, Norway, Morocco, and Dubai, to name a few. “It grounds me. I enjoy mingling with the locals and learning about their culture. I’ve always had an interest in local artwork and textiles,” says Bilan. She does not have a favorite destination but tends to gravitate to Thailand, especially Chiang Mai.
Although Bilan has only recently picked up jewelry designing, it has always been in her nature. She can remember digging through clearance jewelry in department stores and find different, leftover pieces. “I would purchase them and bring them home to remake using eyebrow tweezers,” says Bilan.
She began designing pieces for herself from department store finds and trinkets picked up from around the world. Soon enough friends and family began asking for original pieces, which lead to the creation of Christina Bilan Designs in 2007. Bilan’s jewelry has now been featured on American Idol, Fashion Manuscript, Vestiture Magazine, AZFamily Tv, and numerous red carpet appearances.
Each piece of jewelry is original and unique. Clients love her pieces because they speak to each of them individually. Her parents, immigrants from Ukraine and Germany, instilled a passion for nature and beauty from a young age, which now carries out in her jewelry.
Many customers describe her jewelry as a spiritual reflection. There is just something magnetic about it. She says that often times a specific piece will “speak” to a customer. They’ll continue shopping around but tend to gravitate back to that specific piece. This reflects Bilan’s mission statement well, “Bilan’s mission statement is, “to create beautiful jewelry that individuals enjoy wearing while balancing mind, body and spirit.”
